To start off season 7 with a bang and a woof, Riot Games has announced Patch 7.1 alongside a rework of one of the original staple champions of League of Legends, Warwick.
The Warwick rework comes as the champion stayed almost entirely the same since his inception in 2009 to go along with the alpha build release of the game. Prior to this announcement, Warwick had one of the longest untouched base kits, with champions such as Singed joining him.
His similarities to the recent Rengar rework are immediate and noticeable. Both of these bipedal animal hunters have mechanics involving long-range tracking and pouncing onto slightly suspecting enemies. They both also have AoE "roars" with different properties, with Rengar able to heal and have crowd control immunity, while Warwick. As well, both champions have easily accessible leaps through Rengar's passive and Warwick's Q.
Like his animal bro, Warwick looks to benefit from having durability in his build, in order to survive the initial engage and stay a nuisance through his usage of his dash and his crowd control. He also has an incredibly long range engage which can make laners feel very unsafe as they attempt to gain advantages in their lane and become more vulnerable as a result. In that sense, his jungle pressure feels similar to not only Rengar but Nocturne.
A summary of his skills are as follows:
Eternal Thirst (Passive): Warwick's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage. When he is below half health, his bonus damage also heals him for the same amount.
Jaws of the Beast (Q): Warwick does a slight lunge forward and deals damage. Holding down Q will cause Warwick to lock on to his enemy and appear behind them.
Blood Hunt (W): Warwick passively sees blood trails that lead to low health enemies and gains movement speed when running towards blood trails. When activated, all enemies give a blood trail regardless of health.
Primal Howl (E): Warwick gains damage reduction for a short period, then can release an area-of-effect fear around him.
Infinite Durress (R): Warwick leaps and suppresses the first champion he collides with; the leap range is based on his movement speed.
